Walmart has agreed to buy TV maker Vizio , the companies announced Tuesday, as the largest U.S. retailer grows its high-profit ad business. Walmart will acquire Vizio for $2.3 billion, or $11.50 per share, in cash. But in buying the company, Walmart touted the potential to boost its ad business through Vizio's SmartCast Operating System, which allows users to stream free ad-supported content on their TVs. As it pushes for higher profits, the retail titan has tried to expand its media business Walmart Connect, which comes with bigger profit margins than selling groceries or clothing. In a news release, Walmart said Vizio's SmartCast system has 18 million active accounts.

The index gives chains a satisfaction score out of 100, based on factors including a store's layout and hours, merchandise selection, courtesy and helpfulness of staff as well as speed of the checkout process. The scores were calculated based on interviews with 40,264 customers between January and December of 2023. Those customers were asked to evaluate their recent experiences at the nation's biggest chains.

Federal health officials are expanding a warning about salmonella poisoning tied to charcuterie meat snack trays sold at Sam's Club and Costco stores. At least 47 people in 22 states have been sickened and 10 people have been hospitalized after eating Busseto brand and Fratelli Beretta brand meats, officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday. OpenAI's board announced CEO Sam Altman is out, effective immediately. "We are grateful for Sam's many contributions to the founding and growth of OpenAI," a statement from OpenAI's board said. Prior to OpenAI, Sam Altman was the president of Y Combinator, after his startup Loopt was part of the accelerator's first class. Taking the reins from Altman as interim CEO is Murati, who formerly led the technology team at OpenAI.
